Ethics

The City of Bee Cave’s ethics ordinance is designed to ensure that local government is fair, ethical,  accountable and fosters public trust. The current ethics ordinance went into effect January 14, 2025. The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to establish clear guidelines for ethical conduct.

This Code applies to elected and appointed officials, as well as city employees. The city manager has the authority to oversee and discipline city employees in line with the city's structure, charter, and ordinances. The city council is responsible for enforcing the ethics code for elected and appointed officials.

Any member of the public may file an ethics code complaint by submitting this form to the city secretary. The city attorney will serve as the ethics compliance officer.

The ethics compliance officer's job is to review ethics complaints to make sure they follow the proper format before sending them to the city council or an ethics commission. The officer doesn't decide if the facts in the complaint are true, but rather if they could potentially violate the ethics code if proven true. If the complaint doesn't meet the necessary requirements or wouldn't be a violation, it will be dismissed. If the complaint meets the form requirements and could be a violation, it will be forwarded to the city manager, city secretary, and city council.
