We recommend all residents and workers in Bee Cave sign up for the free Voyent Alert! app which can be downloaded from their phone’s app store. Everyone can sign up to get alerts via app notifications, e-mail or voice message. Please note that to get geographically targeted messages to neighborhoods or places of work, individuals must set their location for Voyent alerts to a specific address. If it is set only for Bee Cave in general, it will default to Bee Cave City Hall. This may cause individuals not to get targeted messages to their precise neighborhood or place of work. What process does the City follow before sending out a Voyent Alert?
Depending on the situation, the Communications Director will discuss the need for an alert with the Chief of Police, Emergency Management Coordinator, City Manager or other agencies to determine the necessity for and/or content of an alert. This program is intended for emergency purposes, which includes resident safety. The city may not send an alert for an accident or other issue if the situation does not impact the safety of residents or cause major delays in traffic. Each scenario will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Why don’t I get all the alerts?
Voyent Alert! has the feature to allow people to geographically target certain neighborhoods or areas of town with information that is relevant specifically to them. This helps maintain the integrity of the delivery of alerts and ensure they are useful and important to the individuals that need to be notified. For this reason, the city encourages the public to set their location to an address, which is kept private, and not to Bee Cave in general.
If the Great Divide low water crossing alert is sent out, will there be an alert letting us know when it is safe again?
The City’s primary concern is safety. The city works with the Bee Cave Police Department to ensure when the barricades are put up at the low water crossing, residents are made aware through Voyent Alert!. While the city will make every effort to send a follow-up alert when the road re-opens, the city may not have staff availability to do so. However, the Police Department will remove the barricades when the road is safe for vehicular travel and passable.
How do I sign-up for voice or e-mail alerts?
The public can set their preferences by logging on website. This will allow the tailoring of how different residents prefer to receive alerts through the app, under the “My Contacts” section.
If my electricity or water goes out will I get an alert?
While the city will make every effort to share important information from utility providers if it affects a large number of residents or the city as a whole, the City of Bee Cave does not operate electric or water utilities. The best source of information for a disruption in utility services would be the utility provider. Each provider has its own method of emergency notification. The City should not be your main source of information if there is a disruption in a service provided by a separate utility.
